Art Therapy Services

What is Art Therapy?

Art therapy is a mental health profession that uses the creative process of art making to improve and enhance the physical, mental and emotional well-being of individuals of all ages. Rooted in psychotherapy, art therapy is based on the belief that the creative process involved in artistic self-expression helps people to resolve conflicts and problems, develop interpersonal skills, manage behavior, reduce stress, increase self-esteem and self-awareness, and achieve insight.

For more information on art therapy, please see the website of the American Art Therapy Association or the Art Therapy Credentials Board.   Art Therapy is also listed as an Allied Health Profession.

Services 1. Healing Arts Workshops

I am available to facilitate a healing arts workshop at your event or conference. Workshops can be tailored to your specified needs at your organization.

Example Workshop:

Title: Making Sense, Making Special: Grief, Loss and Memory Mosaics

Facilitators: Lindsey Vance, MAAT and Martina E Martin, M.Div, MAAT, ATR

Description: Devastating losses come in many forms.  Whether you have experienced the death of a loved one, divorce, addiction, the onset of a disease or chronic illness, lived through tragedies or disasters, you have faced loss.  Making sense of these losses, and coming to terms with your experience of grief may prove difficult, especially during the holiday season.  This interactive healing arts workshop will consist of taking treasured mementos that represent a loss and transforming them into a lasting mosaic tile.  It is hoped that the artwork created will then serve as a transitional object that will allow the recovery process to move forward.
